Our Hive Bookshop Community,
We are overwhelmed by the welcome you've given The Hive. Thank you for showing up, sharing our excitement, bringing your friends and families, and making this little bookshop feel so full of life from the very beginning. When we dreamed of The Hive Bookshop, we hoped it would be more than a place to buy books. We imagined a space where people would gather, connect, discover new stories, and spend time together. In less than six weeks, we've already seen that happen in ways that have exceeded our expectations. We've hosted book clubs, story time, a Mom Prom, and so many meaningful conversations in between. Watching this community begin to take shape has been one of our greatest joys of opening the shop.
As we head into June, we look forward to highlighting books by LGBTQ+ authors during Pride Month and celebrating Juneteenth by sharing stories and voices that deserve to be read, heard, and discussed. We also have plenty of fun things on the calendar, including the launch of our first Hive Book Club. You'll find details below.
Most of all, we hope The Hive becomes a place you enjoy returning to; a place where you can stop in to browse, settle into the couch with a book or your laptop, meet a friend, or simply spend a little time surrounded by stories. Thank you for helping make The Hive Bookshop what it is. We can't wait to keep growing this community alongside you.

Land | Maggie O’Farrell
Sara recommends this book because the writing is about as beautiful as it gets — full of atmosphere and emotion while the story takes its time in a way that feels completely absorbing. The story weaves together different timelines seamlessly, slowly building a story that is both intimate and devastating. Sara says the landscape itself feels alive here, becoming as vivid and essential as any character, much like the house in North Woods.
The House of Last Resort | Christopher Golden
Casey recommends this book because it is a perfect spooky summer read that takes place in Italy. An American couple buys a home in Becchina for just one Euro but soon discovered secrets about the house. Casey says it is emotional, scary, and so fast paced.
The Lies They Told | Ellen Marie Wiseman
Megan says she loves this book because it is a heartbreaking look at a piece of our country’s history that we don’t often talk about. The story follows Lena and her encounters with state eugenics policies from Ellis Island to the Appalachian Mountains. Megan says you will learn while aching for the characters in the story.
Wonder | R.J. Palacio
Jill recommends this story of a 10-year-old born with a severe facial difference as he transitions from homeschool to 5th grade at Beecher Prep. He battles bullying but also experiences compassion. Jill says this middle grade novel affirms the importance of self-acceptance as well as the need to look beyond physical appearances. Five stars!

We’re so delighted to welcome Christina Baker Kline (@bakerkline) for a special virtual visit!
Her new novel, The Foursome, release in May and we are thrilled that it is the inaugural pick for The Hive Book Club.
